The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

By Defekto | July 17, 2007

About seven or eight months ago the first issue of Lab Magazine came out and featured a six-page spread about me. The magazine was originally going to have a decent circulation, but not surprisingly, printing costs became a problem and so it is only available as a print-on-demand book. I finally got myself a copy (I had to buy it). I don’t think that I ever mentioned it on this blog, so I figured I’d mention it now.

I had very little to do with the selection of photos they decided to use, but some of the people who I’ve photographed and show up in this 6-page piece are: Leslie & the Lys, Susan Lowe, Dan Deacon, Margaret Cho, Nikki LeFaye, Jason Dove, Chase Lisbon, Death Set, Santa Dads, Joyce DeSalvo, Fionnuala Fox, a bunch of Wham City kids and lots more.

The book is a bit pricey, about $25, but it’s a nicely designed job with glossy cover and loaded with interviews and pieces on other photographers, illustrators and crafter. The contents page can be found here. Or order the hard copy here. Or go directly to the online version of my piece here.
And speaking of Good, Bad and Ugly…one of the things I miss most about NYC is Sandy Kane. Sandy was/is an amazing Jewish-Stripper-Singer-Comedienne. Individually, she doesn’t do any of those well, but together she is magical. I’m not sure if she still has her public access show but, I hope she does. If anyone has any tapes of her show, send them to me! She does a wonderful version of “California Dreaming” (My underpants are brohaaahowwwn and my pussy…it is gray… California Reemin’…) Here she is singing the BEST version ever of the Laura Branigan hit, “Gloria”.

Hi Defekto. First of all I wanted to ask permission to use your poloroid of Doris Fish on my blog http://www.judymeat.blogspot.com - I will give you credit and post your copyright.

Secondly, I love your photos. The one of Doris is great. And the undiscovered male models, I thought, well these guys are jaded enough to live in San Francisco, they still have a small town innocence even though some are all punked out. Also there’s a lot of diff. types not just comformity. - Bryce
