Sometimes I get so excited about a movie that is suddenly available on DVD that it has to go directly to the top of my queue. I’m overly familiar with the old advertising and make assumptions that are horribly wrong. My anticipation blinds me to the fact that the movie that I’ve been waiting to see for years is actually shit.
I knew A*P*E was going to be bad…really bad, but I have a weakness for sub-par cinema and giant monster movies. If anything I would be able to see the infamous flipping the bird scene…which really is worth sitting through the whole interminable 81 minutes for. There’s also a hilarious wrestling scene between a shark and the 36 foot man in a matted gorilla suit. He destroys lots of model villages and toy sets. There’s terrible blue screen footage, infuriating acting and what’s worse is that after over an hour of being fired at by ground and air forces, the big ape vomits blood and dies without any of the annoying characters meeting the same end. Yes..that was a spoiler, but you don’t need to see the film. You only need to watch the clip below.
